Dad's Lane Fish and Chip Bar isn't my local fish and chip shop but it's the one I always go to as it's easily the best in the Moseley-Kings Heath area. It appears that lots of people agree with me too as most evenings the queue goes out of the door and the restaurant (next door to the takeaway) is busy.

With lots on offer that caters to omnivores, pescatarians and vegetarians, the chips are always tasty, the batter always crisp and sometimes they even sell doughnuts!

My personal favourites are the large battered sausage and a cone of chips (with a small pot of curry sauce) and the small chicken meat and chips with curry sauce. Both are filling and yummy and the chips make great chip butties.

Best chippy in Birmingham! I miss living in Kings Heath as sadly I now live too far to get chips from here! It appears that a lot of people agree that is it great because there is always queues outside the door.

The chips are of a good quality and taste fresh. The potato scallops are also really good as well and the curry sauce.

A great value for money and the staff are really friendly.

The food is worth the wait in the queue!

I have a vegan sister in law that likes to grow her own vegetables and fruit on this allotment. I often wonder down to the allotment with her to see how her growing patch is coming along.

Whilst I was here I enjoyed the simple tranquility that the area bought. I was amazed by the amount of people that have an allotment here in Birmingham. We got talking to a few of the other allotment owners and they were more than happy to provide us with clippings, advice and their opinions on gardening.

After I left the allotment I decided to go online and check to see if I could get an allotment for myself. They sent me all of the forms with a selection of allotments to choose from. I decided to fill out the forms and then call the hotline. When I did I was told that the waiting list for an allotment in Birmingham is 2 years.

I still don't have an allotment, but I am waiting. I look forward to the day that I can join in with my sister in law in some city based gardening.

Chips shops are two a penny on the nearby High Street, and as part of their market is drunk people at closing time, they can sometimes compromise on quality. Truth.

In contrast, Dad's Lane Fish and Chip Bar cater for the family eaters, who after getting their order hurry home by car to tip out quality fresh-cooked golden fried food onto plates to devour in front of the telly. Cod, Haddock and Plaice are fish that are available and there may be some other variety in the catch as well.

The queue on a Friday night is testament to the quality of this legendary fish and chips shop. It stretches out of the door and well onto the pavement, with people in happy anticipation of eating what are the best fish suppers in Birmingham. You are never waiting long though as there are enough staff to co-ordinate the operation so that the queue goes down quickly and that your order is delivered in one go and hot.

My recommendation is to buy a family portion of chips. This feeds three if you've got accompaniments, and it keeps itself and everything else in your feast-bag hotter for longer, which is handy if you're more than a short drive away.

Praise be to the lard! Perfect for a mid week chippy tea. The finest fresh fried fish and chips to die for. There are two halves to the Dads Lane Fish Bar, the takeaway and the restaurant, I always opt for a seat and waitress service. It offers great value for money, I'm not saying it's cheap as chips, I'm saying it's reasonably priced and consistently serves up great quality freshly cooked fish. And the batter's beautiful, no reheated armour plating on the haddock here.
